The goal of the Spanish program is to introduce the students at St. Mary-Sacred Heart School to the joy and excitement of learning a foreign language.  Coursework begins in the second trimester of the sixth grade with an introduction to the language.  The focus at this grade level is to learn the basics of pronunciation and to begin building vocabulary to communicate.  As students continue learning Spanish in the seventh and eighth grades, their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are further improved as they expand their vocabulary and learn basic rules of grammar and usage.  Hispanic culture is introduced through a variety of resources with the hope that the students gain an understanding and respect of a culture other than their own. Students will also be exposed to prayer and religious traditions in relation to the Hispanic culture.
